Pop Some Bubbly!!

Cheers! You're engaged! Everything feels so exciting...until the questions start...when is the wedding? What is your color palette? What venue did you pick? Have you decided what food you're serving? Don't panic! We're here to help! We know that wedding planning can feel super overwhelming, but we're here to make the process fun! Although we walk our couples through every phase of the wedding planning process, we wanted to offer some helpful tips and tricks to couples planning their own wedding!

Set Your Budget

First things first...you always want to start with a budget! This budget will help you stay on track with your spending decisions through the planning process. Along with setting your budget, you should also decide what items you're counting in the budget. We are avid users of spreadsheets and find they can be a helpful tool to keep all the details in order! Plus, if you use Google Sheets, you can share access to keep everyone on the same page!

Start Your Guest List

Almost every decision for your wedding is going to be dependent on the size of your wedding. This will also help you finalize your budget in specific categories (such as food and drinks). Having a general idea of how many guests you'd like to invite can make a lot of decisions easier down the road!

Create Your Wedding Vision

This one sounds a lot trickier than it is. You don't have to pick every detail of the wedding with this task, just having a general idea of the vibe you like is the key! You can also do a combination of themes if it speaks to you! Modern with a touch of elegant? Rustic with a sprinkle of vintage? We love it! Having an idea of your wedding aesthetic will help you narrow down the overwhelming ideas as you start down the rabbithole of wedding inspiration! This detail also makes picking a venue and color palette a lot easier! We also recommend having a place to store all of your wedding ideas and inspiration nicely in one place (physically or digitally).

Pick Your Wedding Party

Ok, this one is SUPER important! The people you select for your wedding party are going to be the ones with you the most throughout the planning process and wedding celebrations, so make sure you and your partner have people that hype you up and keep you in good spirits!

Select Your Venue

Your venue is the first vendor you should book (outside of a wedding planner). Booking your venue solidifies your date, wedding vision, guest count, remaining budget, and bookable vendors. When we're touring venues with couples we take quite a few details into consideration. Does the venue fit the wedding vision? What is included with the rental? Does it align with the budget? What is their vendor policy?

Hire Your Wedding Coordinator

Although you're planning your wedding on your own, you don't have to be alone! Your wedding coordinator can provide you with helpful information, task lists to keep you on track through the planning process, and vendor recommendations. Want to know more about the services a wedding coordinator can provide? Read our blog "What Does A Wedding Coordinator Do?" for all the details!
